Every 1000 years, the world’s greatest warriors and merchants of death participate in an ancient practice of cleansing the planet of demonic creatures. This ancient practice is called ‘The Ritual’. The participants are called ‘Priests’. Every culture around the world has told of ancient gods and beings of power rising to take down these unholy abominations. History has presented these stories as fables, myths and urban legends, but this year the world will bare witness.
Among the summoned is the Reaper himself. Normally his duties are limited to guiding souls that are ready to leave their vessels. During The Ritual, Death exercises his ability to manifest in the physical world in order to participate in the hunt. He was first approached by Poseidon just prior to the 2nd Ritual 24000 years ago. Poseidon knew he couldn’t do it by himself, but there were few that possessed the power to help him. He explains his predicament to the Reaper. He listens to Poseidon and without a word, he turns away. Then Poseidon raises his voice and says “I invoke the laws of ‘Noctum Officium’!”. The Reaper stops in his tracks and turns around. The moonlight illuminates a slither of his face, revealing his bold darkened skull. Without moving at all, the word ‘Understood’ echo all around Poseidon in a deep tone, as if the sounds were coming from everywhere and nowhere. Even Poseidon with all his might and bravery was unsettled by the shadowy omnipotent being. There is no one that can evade his touch, even a God. Luckily for Poseidon, he was able to get his help, and he’ll need it.
The Reaper’s fighting style is based on teleportation and powerful strikes of his synth. Over the ages, the creatures have grown in skill and complexity. This year’s prey is the deadliest yet. His first trophy is the head of Kargon, a 4th gen evolved soul feeder. Soul eaters go through a metamorphosis after consuming a large number of souls. With each evolution, the soul eater gains more abilities. A 4th gen soul eater is extremely rare to encounter. They clash, interlocking hands. Death crushes the creature’s fists into pulp. He screams in agony! Death grabs the synth from his back and slices through Kargon’s head. And just like that, the first sacrifice is made. The Reaper holds up the head of the first sacrifice, knowing that there was many more to come…
